Elevating EL AL Airlines Cybersecurity Infrastructure

Background

EL AL Airlines is a globally renowned airline that symbolizes Israel’s spirit. With over 4,500 employees and contractors, EL AL has been recognized by IATA as one of the most efficient airlines in the world. Despite its success, EL AL recognized the growing threat of sophisticated cyber-attacks and the potential for unauthorized access to its digital ecosystem. The airline reinforced its cybersecurity defenses to safeguard its passengers’ privacy and enhance operational safety.

The Challenge

The challenges faced by EL AL Airlines included the increasing threat of cyber attacks targeting the aviation industry. These attacks could lead to unauthorized access to the airline’s digital infrastructure, posing risks to passenger privacy and operational safety. To address this, EL AL needed to strengthen its cybersecurity measures significantly.

The Solution

EL AL partnered with RedRok, a leading cybersecurity solutions provider, to deploy a comprehensive cybersecurity suite to achieve this. The suite comprised Red, Exsight, Insight, and Rokware and was designed to provide a multi-layered approach to fortifying the airline’s digital ecosystem.

Red, the first component of the suite, identified and deactivated unauthorized profiles with high-level access privileges, preventing possible impersonation of key executives. This ensured that only authorized personnel could access confidential information and the airline’s critical systems.

Exsight, the second component, detected and remedied outdated service accounts with unnecessary escalated privileges, eliminating backdoor access points into EL AL’s network. This addressed one of the most common entry points for cyber attackers and removed potential vulnerabilities in the airline’s cybersecurity infrastructure.

Insight, the third component of the suite, uncovered and rectified vulnerabilities within non-audited user groups and shared folder permissions. This prevented data leaks and secured sensitive information from unauthorized access.

Finally, Rokware, the fourth component, empowered EL AL’s workforce with critical cybersecurity skills. The workforce improved their awareness of cybersecurity risks through simulated email phishing attacks and education on cyber scams and threats. This reduced the risk of internal threats and enhanced overall network security.

RedRok’s deployment enabled real-time monitoring and threat visualization, ensuring ongoing protection and swift response to security anomalies. EL AL can now continue to serve as a global ambassador of Israel’s spirit while being confident that its digital ecosystem is protected against sophisticated cyber attacks.

Project Results

RedRok’s intervention led to the robust fortification of EL AL’s cybersecurity framework. The immediate benefits were manifold:
  • Enhanced security protocols for executive impersonation risks.
  • Streamlined service account management and privilege right-sizing.
  • Secured data-sharing practices and group access permissions.
